IPL Ver 4.0   2 comments

That was ICC World Cup and this is the 4th edition of IPL. What’s the bid deal? That was my first expression, no offense but I don’t seem to be that crazy about it. In fact I have never been at least for the last 3 IPL seasons.

Now if you are wondering what am I up to? Then answer will be my grin, after I heard the news. It would be foolish on my part not to know that, India winning the cup has actually benefited the IPL, where small or big sponsors are ready to have their share from this piece of history and bank on it. It’s estimated that a total of Crores worth of sponsorship is in for IPL 4.0 just to buy airtime. With two major companies paying 60 Crores for 180 seconds of advertisement. Another 11 companies with a total of 10 Crore each for a 120 second airtime and 950 crores for broadcasting rights.

The leading run scorers from India and those who have played and anchored innings on occasions where India have won a match are all spread across various teams and as captains.

MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings
Sachin Tendulkar – Mumbai Indians
Gautam Gambhir – Kolkata Knight Riders
Virendra Sehwag – Delhi Daredevils
Yuvraj Singh – Sahara Pune Warriors

Coming to the runners-up team from ICC World Cup, Kumar Sangakkara is leading Deccan Chargers and Mahela Jayawardena is leading Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

Now coming to the big buck. BCCI the richest cricketing association is going to double its earning from IPL 3. The reason being more number of teams and more matches.

If we remember the two new teams from Pune and Kochi were sold for approximately 3000 crores or more which is equal to the sale of 8 teams in 2008.

Kings XI and Kolkata Knight Riders have extended their sponsorship contract with ACC and Nokia. This time every small or big sponsor wants to be associated to IPL 4.

With revenues flowing in from all sides for IPL 4 making the most expensive season ever with an estimate of INR 12000 crores being put away by punters (*source NDTV). How much will they benefit. For a cricket crazy nation, where cricket is a religion how well the bet pay off for the companies.

I think it’s a matter of time, we will find out as the IPL’s first match is set for today 8th April 2011 between Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Dhoni Chennai Super Kings.

So go ahead and support your team, while I shall also check the outcome of the matches.
